Those people who live a healthy lifestyle know that an injury can put a dark cloud over your fitness goals. An even worse scenario is getting an injury while you are working out.
Here are a few tips to help avoid injuries while exercising.
Stretch/Warm Up – Going back to middle physical education class we were also taught to warm up and/or stretch before doing any type of exercise. But some adults ignore that and it may lead to a torn or strain injury.
A good warm-up will increase your flexibility and mobility before a workout. Avoid a solid warm-up or stretch can be the direct cause of a knee or shoulder injury.
Know Your Limit – It’s important to know what you can and cannot handle. Weight lifting is one of the top exercises were people sustain injuries.
Trying to lift why more than you can handle can lead to spinal and back injuries. When you think you’re ready to begin increasing the amount of weight you lift, just gradually add 5 to 10 pounds.
Believe What Your Body Tells You – A lot of us want to be as healthy and fits as we can and sometimes we convince our selves to over-exercise. For the most part, our body does a pretty good job of telling us when something is wrong with our bodies.
Trying to run or jog that extra mile may be the difference between a solid cardio workout and extreme fatigue. A good way to avoid extreme fatigue while running is making sure you know have a goal set in mind. You should also make sure the goal is within the boundaries of your physical condition.
